Kelly Fliedner

Kelly Fliedner has a diverse creative and professional practice as a writer, curator, lecturer and producer, and is currently one of the editors of online publication the West Space Journal with Rowan McNaught, with whom she regularly collaborates.

Kelly is currently one of six Australian artists taking part of the Biennale of Sydney and Artspace, Sydney’s experimental writing project, The Bureau of Writing. In 2014 she was selected for the third Australia Council for the Arts London Arts Writers Residency and commenced development of On the Beach; a new podcast with contributions from artists, writers, musicians and designers with a particular interest in the critical dialogue surrounding contemporary art and culture. Kelly’s research is focused on publishing, experimental performance, music and interdisciplinary practices of artists, writers and musicians from the late 1970s and 80s, and her projects often incorporate works from these periods alongside contemporary artists. She has worked with many arts organisations across Melbourne including West Space, Monash University Museum of art, MPavilion, Next Wave, un Magazine, and Melbourne Fringe, and was part of the Gertrude Contemporary Emerging Writers Program.

Kelly’s writing practice is varied, ranging from contemporary and art historical analysis, to a more creative style of writing that lies somewhere in between fictocriticism, experimental abstract poetry and traditional script writing.
