All School

In 2022 we launched our very own artist-led learning program: All School.

All School was designed to facilitate knowledge sharing and idea swapping. We support artists to curate gatherings and develop works with an emphasis on prioritising process over product.

All School programming includes:

  • All School LAB – our biennial IRL gathering point for artists and their communities
  • All School EXCHANGE – bringing artists together from across different states and territories to share practice and ideas
  • All School CRIT CLUB – hybrid digital and IRL work-in-progress showings
  • All School DIGITAL – essays, critical responses and commissions that capture, online, the way artists see the world around them.

In 2024, Next Wave is bringing artists from across the country together for All School LAB, a program of artist-led talks, performances and activities running over 24 and 25 May.

A nod to Next Wave’s past, present and future, All School LAB will unite artists from past festivals with our current national Artistic Directorate and Kickstart cohort to reflect on our 40-year history and dream up possible futures.

The program will include art lectures, performances and installations, even a pickling workshop – all culminating in an art party curated by Next Wave’s very own Young Artistic Directorate.

All School was unveiled with our inaugural All School LAB. Over four days, artists came together and offered artist talks, workshops, performances and curated feasts for themselves and the public to revel in at Melbourne’s Trades Hall.

All School Lab created a nexus of old and new friends to create community together – whether they were stepping onto a larger stage for the first time, exploring new directions, or expanding the scale of their artistic visions.
