Slown, Smallened & Son

Alice Dixon, Caroline Meaden and William McBride work as Slown, Smallened & Son in a non-hierarchical collaboration as devisers and performers of new, unusual contemporary performance.

Their debut work, This is What’s Happening, was presented as part of Darebin Arts’ Speakeasy program for the 2015 Melbourne Fringe. The work won the Fringe Award for Best Dance, and was nominated for Australian Dance and Green Room awards in 2016. Their next work, Fallen O’er, was commissioned for the Abbotsford Convent’s Alchemy program and was nominated for a 2017 Australian Dance Award. Their third work, Blowin’ Up, premiered in The Substation’s 2016 curated Melbourne Fringe program and won the Arts House Evolution Award.

Their practice is an enquiry at the intersection of contemporary dance and theatre that foregrounds rigorous and unusual physicality, inventive writing and spoken delivery, and choreographic performance structures and dramaturgical logics. Our performances are layer-cakes of form and reference that speak to the complexity of what it feels like to live in the current era. They are currently working on two new works, Lady Example and Let’s Go Up Here, to premiere in 2018.
