Next Wave, our Brunswick Mechanics Institute programming partner Composite and Counihan Gallery are joining forces for Brunswick Music Festival.
We’re co-delivering Neighbourhood Noise—an open invitation for the local community to experience live music and experimental arts programming across two venues on Saturday 8 March.
Next Wave has partnered with Speak Percussion for Percussion, Conversation, Degustation—part of an ongoing series of improvisational music and cross-artform performance that integrates elements of food, participatory discussion and live music.
Speak Percussion artists will lead participants through an interactive workshop, followed by a performance and conversation between food legend Duré Dura (OAM) and Next Wave Young Artistic Director Matisse Laida.
Throughout the event, Radio Composite @ BMI will transform Brunswick Mechanics Institute into a vibrant, live broadcasting hub for a day of experimental audio, music, and conversation that weaves together the diverse creative energy generated by the Brunswick Music Festival.
Designed to amplify the voices, stories, and sounds of the Merri-bek community, ‘Radio Composite @ BMI’ will offer an immersive auditory experience for both live and remote audiences.
The experience continues over at Counihan Gallery with Fairy Tales from the Celestial Garden. This includes a special performance with artist Jayanto Tan and local community group Orkes Jawi Waton Muni and creative workshop on making a ‘double-happiness’ symbol out of paper.
Brunswick Mechanics Institute will also host MESS Presents: New Waveforms on Wednesday 5 March. ‘New Waveforms’ brings together five emerging artists—D. Tyrone, Mimmie, Reibang Chakma, Zoltan Fecso, and INHARMONICITY—all alumni of the MESS School.
