A huge congratulations to Next Wave Festival 2020 artist Ngioka Bunda-Heath on the launch of ššŖš³š³š±š¢šŖ overnight, presented as part of YIRRAMBOI Festival at Blakdot Gallery this May.
ššŖš³š³š±š¢šŖ is Ngioka Bunda-Heathās new dance piece and photographic exhibition that explores the idea of shifting the gaze and refocusing the colonial lens that has publicly framed her ancestors.
Extending on her 2019 YIRRAMBOI Festival work, Blood Quantum, about her motherās story, Birrpai turns to Ngiokaās fatherās heritage; to her great-grandmother captured by the camera of a āculturalistā.
She puts a First Nations perspective on colonial photography alongside contemporary dance that has taken her to stages around the world.
