Bronwyn Bailey-Charteris

Bronwyn Bailey-Charteris is a feminist Australian born, Stockholm based artist, who works with poetics and politics. Originally trained as a performance maker, she now works collaboratively, curatorially and has a writing practice. Her interests are focused upon academic research, publications and exhibitions, and currently rotate around ideas of adaptation, translation and the performance of self in contemporary art

In 2011 Bronwyn and fellow artist Marcel Cooper were chosen as recipients of the Emerging Curators Program with Gertrude Contemporary Gallery as part of the Next Wave Festival 2012. They began a one-year curatorial mentorship which worked towards a curatorial outcome, presenting an exhibition and publication, Bellowing Echoes, in May 2012 at the gallery as part of the Next Wave Festival. This project was a strong and comprehensive creative exchange with aritsts Jess Johnson, Marcin Wojcik, Anna Kristensen, Tessa Zettel & Karl Khoe and the Slow Art Collective. The exhibition, publication and performance events took as their catalyst an 1830s Melbourne story and used it as a provocation and as a point of exchange with artists who value the personal, the political and the relational.
