Aimee Smith

Aimee Smith is an award winning choreographer and dance artist. She is inspired by the capacity of art to makes sense of the world around us and the capacity of imagination to dream up the future.

A graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Aimee’s choreographic works include Wintering (2013/12), Accidental Monsters of Meaning (2011), Breakings (2010), Courageously Heroic Gallantry (2007), Refund Policy (2007), Alpha.Beta. (2006) and Press Play (2006). She has been commissioned to make work for BUZZ Dance Theatre, LINK, WAAPA, TaipeIdea and The Arctic Circle Project and as a performer has worked with choreographers Paul Gazzola (Germany/Australia), Didier Theron (France), Sue Peacock, Bianca Martin and Hydra Poesis.

Aimee has also worked throughout regional WA directing a number large-scale community arts projects including TranscenDance and Wheel of Fortunes. In 2013 Aimee completed a Masters in Sustainability and received the British Council’s prestigious Realise Your Dream Award to continue her leadership in the intersection of arts and sustainability.

Aimee  has presented two works with the Next Wave Festival; Press Play, an interactive dance installation in 2006 and Wintering, a full length contemporary dance work in 2012.
