Next Wave partners with Composite

Next Wave is welcoming a new resident to our home at Brunswick Mechanics Institute!

Composite: Moving Image Agency & Media Bank is taking up residency in the venue until June 2025 as part of a new programming initiative by Next Wave.

Founded at Collingwood Yards in 2020, Composite is dedicated to supporting artists’ moving image practices through community screenings, workshops and artist talks. They also provide a media bank of technical equipment for artist loan and platforms experimental sound and critical conversation through Composite Radio.

Acting CEO/Director of Next Wave Jacina Leong said she is delighted to have a collaborative and creatively aligned organisation joining Next Wave as part of this residency at Brunswick Mechanics Institute.
“Like Next Wave, Composite is committed to supporting the creation of experimental work by diverse practitioners and finding new ways for people to engage with them,” Jacina said.

“We look forward to building a partnership with Composite that welcomes the Merri-bek and wider community to engage with Brunswick Mechanics Institute through new connections and possibilities for exchange.”

Director of Composite Channon Goodwin said that making the move from their inaugural location at Collingwood Yards was a big step, but one they were excited to make.

“We’ve loved sharing space, ideas, and resources with other Collingwood Yards tenants and the Yarra community, and we are excited to continue in this collaborative spirit as we begin to make ourselves at home in Merri-bek,” Channon said.
