Atlanta Eke

Atlanta is an artist with interest in dance and choreography in an expanded field. As well as presenting her work in theatres, through her choreographic practice Atlanta is interested in developing hybrid transitional spaces for crafting new cultural rituals.

She is the recipient a DanceWEB Europe scholarship to Vienna in 2010, completed a Dancehouse Housemate residency  in 2012, iaan ArtStart Grant recipient and has recently been nominated for a Green Room Award.

She completed the Next Wave Kickstart program in 2011 and presented her solo MONSTER BODY at the Next Wave Festival 2012. The work was remounted at the 2013 Dance Massive Festival Melbourne, MONA FOMA Festival Hobart, MDT Stockholm, BACKFLIP Feminism and Humour in Contemporary Art at Margaret Lawrence Gallery and the Fierce Festival in Birmingham.

She has presented her work Untitled at the NGV for the Melbourne Now, Fountain at Chunky Move, and Organ, made in collaboration with composer Daniel Jenatsch, at the Liquid Architecture Festival. She is an Arts House Culture Lab resident for her work I CON and was the recipient of the 2014 inaugural Keir Choreographic Award for her latest project Body Of Work.

Overseas Atlanta performed in Sidney Leoni’s Undertones at Tamz in Berlin and Marten Spangberg’s Page 74, ImPulsTanz Festival Vienna. She also performed in Jan Ritesma’s Oedipus My Foot throughout Europe and participated in Allianz-The Agora Project (Performing Arts Forum).
