All School LAB program launched

The All School LAB program is here!

The 2024 program considers Next Wave’s past, present and future – with a focus on intergenerational knowledge sharing and creative responses to notions of collectivism, preservation and care – culminating in a future-focused 40th birthday party.

Check out the lineup below or browse the full program on the All School website.

Past

We turn to three artists and collectives from Next Wave’s festival era to reflect on our past:

Past Life Regression by Deep Soulful Sweats, reflecting on OVERWORLD
presented at Next Wave Festival 2014
Nat Randall reflecting on The Second Woman
presented at Next Wave Festival 2016
Luke King reflecting on ‘I am a…’
presented at Next Wave Festival 2018

Present

We focus on critical and creative practices around artist wellbeing and sustainable practice – one of the key motivations behind Next Wave’s transition in 2021 from a festival to year-round programming. This series of activities focus on metaphorical, physical and emotional acts of collectivism, preservation and care:

Taking Stock with Bethany J. Fellows
Seeking to Care with Next Wave’s Artistic Directorate
Preserving Practice with Marian Abboud and An.Other Collective
Tarot Futures with Erica McAlman

Futures

Next Wave’s Young Artistic Directorate has curated a durational art party to celebrate 40 years of Next Wave! The during:next party will transform Brunswick Mechanics into a futuristic performance space, emphasising the idea of evolution that builds on the past.
