Next Wave is more than just a festival. We facilitate learning programs and provide creative development opportunities for artists from around Australia; we regularly present interdisciplinary and contemporary performance work at our venue and in partnership with our peers; and we work hard to improve the conditions for experimental artists working in Australia today.
In 2054 Next Wave is a black organisation that has taken over the world. Unrestrained western physical and power structures have collapsed from the constant pressure of change. As the climate apocalypse looms and economic income for artists becomes non-existent, a team of Super-warrior artists re-centre ways of knowing, being, and healing through the celebration of creativity.
Next Wave has remained in motion for 35 years, constantly shedding its skin and hurtling forward without fear. An arts organisation must remain agile in order to be responsive and relevant. Informed by the Next Wave archive brought to life by yarning with Next Wave’s past directors, two of Next Wave’s Blak producers present a futurespective for Next Wave 35 years from now.
