Next Wave’s art news worth knowing about

Hello
February 21, 2013

This Saturday Next Wave is throwing a party.

Why? Because we’ll have finished a stellar week of running two of Australia’s biggest artist development programs: a three-day intensive for Australia Council for the Arts’ JUMP Mentorship Program followed by a three day intensive for our flagship program, Kickstart, all smashed into one week. Saturday’s NEXT WAVE SOCIAL at Northcote Town Hall is our way of celebrating these artists.

If you speak to any of the JUMP artists they’ll tell you that Brian Fu%$ing Ritchie’s keynote speech was a highlight of the week. He also played the intro to Blister in the Sun and then we all wet our pants. If you see me at Next Wave Social, I’ll probably tell you that I carried Brian F#@cking Ritchie’s guitar yesterday - the highlight of my week.

Rock legends aside, our own Kickstart rockstars are just diving into three days of chats, giggles, practical tips and art musings. For further inspiration they’ll be soaking up the local theatre scene this week traveling to Theatre Works to catch Mutation Theatre’s latest work and The Malthouse for some William Zappa action.

So make like a groupie at Next Wave Social and go out like a blister in the sun (that’s right, I just said that) with art and performances by Kickstart and JUMP artists alongside local bands and DJs including Sleepy Tea (sweet), the Harpoons (ahem, awesome) and Playwrite (ahem, also awesome).

Catch ya!
