Pegboard: Advocate, Educate, Organise…

Earlier this year, NAVA hosted a mock parliamentary debate, pitting Next Wave’s Festival artists against each other to argue for and against a $1bn national arts funding pledge. The debate was fierce (“does $1bn do justice to the value of art?”) and a small but potent exercise in artist advocacy. Next Wave farewells Lauren Clelland

Lauren grew up in Brisbane on Turrbal/Yuggera country and has always had her eye on Next Wave. In 2010, as an emerging artist and arts worker, she moved to Melbourne with a drive to become involved in a supportive and critical arts ecology that nurtured different forms of creative expression emanating from a multitude of voices. She’d always had her eyes on Next Wave, and set her sights on becoming involved.

Next Wave X co-commission artist announced

Next Wave has partnered with nine organisations across Australia to commission new work for Next Wave Festival 2020. Next Wave X provides artists with national support to develop and present ambitious new work through increased funding, residency space, expert mentorship and multiple presentation opportunities.
