So what do you get when you take one empty warehouse space, offer it as blank canvas to one local artist, add three-parts drinks menu, two-parts DJs and one-part musicians, shake well and serve over ice? You get RESIDENCY, a bar-as-exhibition, popping up for three days only in the CBD as part of Melbourne Music Week.
Run by the excellent team at Shebeen (also responsible for our 2014 Festival Club) RESIDENCY takes up shop on Flinders St, designed by artist Thomas Jeppe. With a minimal, dance-oriented design, Jeppe draws presents his version of a “classic club”, a zone of physical transcendence.
Opening tonight, RESIDENCY will also welcome an excellent line-up of DJs and live music, including Misha Hollenbach (of fashion label PAM) and Laila (Day Care), Michael Ozone and Simon TK on Friday and SAFIA and Moon Holiday on Saturday. Get on down for a boogie, a drink and while you’re there, maybe say hi to our Artistic Program Manager Meg, who’s helping run the thing. Doors open from 5pm.
RESIDENCY runs from 20 – 22 November at 524 Flinders Street, Melbourne.
