Jesse Cox and The Real Tom Banks

A big congratulations to 2014 alumnus Jesse Cox whose radio documentary The Real Tom Banks received an award from the Third Coast / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition. Run by the Third Coast International Audio Festival and judged by the likes of  This American Life host Ira Glass, the competition honors the most creative and compelling audio work being produced worldwide.

The Real Tom Banks introduces us to young writer and performer Tom, who is 23, gay and looking for love. Growing up on a farm outside of Geelong, Tom turned to the internet to meet others and get advice. Having spent countless hours in chat rooms and on internet dating sites, Tom is now a bit of an expert when it comes to meeting guys online. And he has learned that when you’re online you can be whoever you want to be. So who is The Real Tom Banks?

You can listen to the full documentary on the Third Coast website or on Radio National’s Radiotonic program page, where the segment originally aired.
