Following sold out seasons in Melbourne and Brisbane, 2014 alumna Zoey Dawson (of collective I’m Trying to Kiss You) takes her critically acclaimed play The Unspoken Word is ‘Joe‘ to the Griffin Theatre Sydney.
Written while dealing with a bad break up, the play reaches deeply into meta-theatrical satire. It’s presented as a ”play-reading” of a work by ”Zoey Dawson” and performed by Nikki Shiels, Aaron Orzech, Natasha Herbert, Matt Hickey and Annie Last. Taking a burning look at the independent theatre scene, The Unspoken Word is ‘Joe‘ slyly invokes the subtle pressures brought to bear on emerging female artists and performers.
Both a celebration and a mockery of performance, the play presents a portrait of a woman desperate for the approval of her peers. You should totally see it.
