Saltwater Country on Tour

Alumni Megan Cope and Ryan Presley join a group of Indigenous artists from various regions of coastal Queensland for Saltwater Country, a major travelling exhibition Curated by Michael Aird and Virginia Rigney. Also featuring contemporary artists such as Vernon Ah Kee, Daniel Boyd, Fiona Foley, Ken Thaiday and Judy Watson, the exhibition has traveled from the Gold Coast to Washington DC and in 2015 will be on show in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art practice is notably different from the contemporary painting movement that has emerged from the Western Desert. Saltwater Country seeks to capture that distinctive cultural and creative experience as artists reclaim histories, investigate their pasts and establish new ways of caring for country and community through their artistic practice.

After spending time at the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art in Utrecht, the exhibition returns to Australia for a stint at the Manly Art Gallery and Museum, Sydney, NSW.
