2004 alumnus and audio-visual maestro Matthew Gingold will present a new dance work, Zero Zero alongside Tony Yap and Yumi Umiumare at Dancehouse this October.
The work sees Yap and Umiumare reconnecting their practice as a duo after making major solo works apart. Under Matthew’s direction, Zero Zero maps the pair’s choreographic language, as they explore the liminal spaces between the visible and the invisible . From the simplicity of the human body lit by candles and incense to pulsing electronic light, Zero Zero transports the viewer with its immersive environment and evocative, trance-like physical explorations.
The work forms part of Dance Territories, Dancehouse’s program in Melbourne Festival. Dance Territories presents two themed double bills over four evenings, pairing an Australian piece with an international one. Zero Zero double bills alongside The Coffee Drinkers, from Belgian troupe Compagnie Moussoux-Bonte.
